Debra Page is a Hampton Roads native, born and raised here. Although she had always loved balancing her father’s checkbook and had taken math classes in high school, accounting was not a career path followed by many women in those days. Instead, Debra earned her Bachelor of Arts in Education at James Madison University, and then taught in Norfolk’s public schools for nine years. She married Jack Page in 1983, and when her father suggested that she return to college to earn a master’s degree, Debra decided the time was right to go for a career she was more interested in pursuing. With Jack’s support, Debra earned her MBA at ODU.
Debra joined Nick’s new CPA practice not long after Jim Hartle. She earned her CPA while gaining practical experience in public accounting, then decided to open her own business so that she would have a more flexible schedule for traveling with her husband after his retirement. She has built a good base of tax and accounting clients, but still maintained an informal working relationship with us, attending continuing education classes together with Nick and Jim, calling back and forth to discuss tax or accounting issues, or sharing software tips – so we were delighted when Debra agreed in the summer of 2007 to return on a formal, part-time basis.
Debra has over ten years experience in a CPA environment, including eight years managing her own firm, and has accumulated over ten years of practical knowledge working in QuickBooks. She has over a decade of experience in personal, corporate, partnership, Trust and Estate tax preparation. Although she continues to maintain her own business, Debra also handles the monthly accounting for several of NLP CPAs clients, as well as processing returns for our tax clients throughout the year.
